Frequently Asked Question

YouTube video filtering
Last Updated 2 years ago

Inside of the school network, YouTube runs in a restricted mode to filter videos that may have inappropriate content. Teachers and staff have full access to YouTube if they are signed in to the site with their @dcboe.com account.

Media specialists have the ability to whitelist specific videos for students. In order for students to view YouTube videos that have been whitelisted, they must be signed in to YouTube with their @student.dcboe.com account.

*** IMPORTANT ***

If a student or teacher creates a new "channel" inside of their YouTube account and then selects this channel inside of their profile, YouTube would change back to "restricted" mode, and whitelists would not be applied. To fix this, follow these steps:

1. Click the user icon at the top-right of YouTube, then click the gear to access the settings page.
2. Click the link that says "See all my channels or create a new channel"
3. Select the channel that shows the correct email address and says "Owner account"
